Built in 1909, the Boston Arena was the home of the Bruins (1924-28) and Celtics (1946-55). The world's oldest hockey arena has been the home to the Northeastern hockey team from its inception in 1929-30 and is now called Matthews Arena after Boston businessman, George Matthews. From 1946-55, Walter Brown's Celtics played a few games a year in the arena to lessen their schedule at the Boston Garden. Since the floor of the Arena was concrete, Brown paid $11,000 to have a wood floor built for the team and the famous parquet floor was born. Along with the floor, these three red wooden seats made the trip from the old arena to the Boston Garden. The good conditioned seats are numbered 1, 2, and 3 in white paint and the armrests are made of metal. The paint has worn off on the bottom of the seats. Over 90 years old, these seats have seen Dempsey, Tunney, Louis, Shore, Orr, Esposito, Cousy and Russell.
