Chris Cannizzaro was the first regular catcher for the San Diego Padres when the ball club joined the league as an expansion team in 1969. Cannizzaro had one of his best years as a regular player in 1970, the year of this jersey, hitting a career high .279. On the left front tail is the "Wilson" label with the size"42." Below this is the year "1970" in brown chain stitch. Across the front of the jersey is the team name "San Diego" and on the back is the player number "8." All letters and numbers are done in brown felt on yellow tackle twill. There is yellow and brown piping around the neck and sleeves. The jersey shows even throughout with fraying evident on the letters, number, and piping. All stitching is original and consistent with other jerseys from that era that we have seen. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
