In the current golden age of shortstops Nomar is one of the Kings. In 1997, the year of this jersey, he came up to the big leagues giving us one of the most amazing rookie year performances of all time. His .306 average combined with 98 RBIs, 30 homeruns, and a league leading 209 hits and 11 triples earned his a unanimous vote for Rookie of the Year. On the left front tail is the "Russell Athletic" label with the size "46." Adjacent to this are the "100% Polyester" and "3" Extra Body Length" flag tags. Also adjacent is a white label with the year "1997." Across the front of the jersey is the team name "Boston." On the back is a gray nameplate with the player name "Garciaparra" and below this is the player number "5." All of the letters and numbers are made of red on blue tackle twill. On the right sleeve is the "Jackie Robinson 50th Anniversary" patch commemorating the breaking of baseball's color barrier. The jersey shows game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
