Sam Chapman went straight to the majors from the University of California, where he had been an All-American football player. He had it all: speed, power and a strong arm. Chapman became a popular team leader and batted .322 with 25 HR in 1941. He led AL outfielders in putouts four times and assists once. In the neck of the jersey is a white felt patch reading "Chapman 4" in black chain stitch. The number denotes the player number. On the inside left front tail is a white felt patch with the year "48" in black chain stitch. On the inside right front tail is the "Mitchell & Ness" label and next to this is the "MacGregor" label with the size "46." On the left breast is the letter "A" and the back is the player number "4." Both the name and number are made of blue on white felt. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
