6'4" and 250 lbs., Roberto Hernandez maintains an intimidating presence on the mound. He has an overpowering fastball, a nasty splitter and a slider that he can all throw for strikes. On the left front tail of the jersey is the "Russell Athletic" label with the size "50" and below this is the "2" Extra Length" label. Below this is a label reading "39-50-96" denoting the player number, size and year, respectively. Across the front of the shirt is "Chicago" in script-style letters and on the back is "Hernandez." The player number "39" appears on both the right breast and on the back of the shirt. The letters and numbers are made of black on white tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the White Sox patch. The jersey shows even wear throughout. The stitching on the name and number is consistent. The manufacturer's label and the year tag are original. There are stains on the back right tail. The jersey shows evidence of game-use and appears to have no alterations. Willie Hernandez had been among the NL leaders with the Cubs in 1982 and the Cubs and Phillies in 1983. Traded to Detroit in 1984, he quickly became manager Sparky Anderson's stopper. His phenomenal season earned both the MVP and Cy Young awards. In the neck of the jersey is the "Wilson" label with the size "42." Below this is a blue label reading "38 82 2 42" in white chain stitch. The numbers denote the player number, year, set number and size, respectively. On the left tail is the year tag "82" in white chain stitch. On the left breast is the Cubs red/white/blue logo. On the back is "Hernandez" and below this is the player number "38." The letters and numbers are made of red on white tackle twill. On the left sleeve is a black memorial armband. The back numbers have some wrinkling on them from good wear. The tags are all original. The shirt shows even wear throughout. The jersey shows very good game-use and appears to have no alterations.
