The Chicago Charities College All-Star Game was played from 1934 to 1976 between the NFL Champions and a team of star college seniors from the previous year. It was also known as the College All-Star Football Classic. The inaugural game in 1934 was played before a crowd of 79,432 on August 31. Offered is the only known uniform from the game, worn by Bernie Masterson and sourced directly from the Masterson family. On the inside left tail is the Spalding manufacturers tag with an adjacent box tag reading the size “40”. On the inside rear middle tail is a piece of tape reading the handwritten player name “MASTERSON” that is starting to separate. The player “39” appears on both the front and back done in black felt. The jersey shows hit and helmet marks throughout, staining and minor holes around the trim. In the rear waistband on the pants is the Spalding manufacturers tag with an attached box tag reading the size “36”. On the inside front waistband is a tag reading “MASTERSON W-36- INS. 22””. The knee pads and belt remain fully intact. The pants feature helmet marks and staining throughout. Also included are a pair of yellow and silver stirrups worn in the game. This uniform is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use and displays beautifully. Accompanied by a Masterson Family LOA.
