This gold-colored medal weighs 101 grams, it measures approximately 2.25” across and is 3/16” thick. It was presented to three-time NBA Champion and Hall of Fame Coach Alex Hannum during his playing days when he earned MVP honors for the AAU. The face of the medal reads “HELMS-OLYMPIC ATHLETIC FOUNDATION” in relief and features the casted image of an Olympic discus thrower, the Olympic torch and Hermes’ winged foot. The verso of the medal reads “AWARDED TO Alex Hannum IN RECOGNITION OF Most Valuable Player All A.A.U. ‘45 Basketball” “WHILE IT IS CONCEDED THAT CONTESTING WELL AND COURAGEOUSLY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN WINNING.
