Roger Staubach was drafted in the 10th round of the 1964 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, but was unable to play until 1969 due to his commitment to the US Navy. Nicknamed "Captain Comeback" for his poise in the pocket and his late game heroics, he led the Cowboys to 23 come-from-behind wins in the fourth quarter. In Super Bowl VI, Staubach was named the MVP after leading the Cowboys to a 24-3 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Throughout his ten year career, he threw for 22,700 yards and 153 touchdowns while being selected to six Pro Bowls. Staubach was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985. Below the inner rear collar on this beautiful mesh body and durene sleeve jersey is the “Southland” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions. Across the front, on back and on each shoulder is the player number “12”. Across the back is the player name “STAUBACH” on a white mesh nameplate. All lettering and numbering is done in the same blue screenprint. Staubach has signed the “1” on the back of the jersey in silver marker with the added inscription “#12”, in our opinion the large signature rates an 8. It must be noted that we have yet to uncover the exact photomatch with the respect to the correlation of the sleeve length and shoulder number configuration. During Staubach’s career it is documented that he made the transition from longer to shorter sleeves. During that time period, the placement of the shoulder numbers moved from below the yolk to on top of the shoulders. The shirt is sans the typical hanging flag tag and does feature what appears to be a vintage repair under the left front shoulder seam. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
