In 1988, Orel led the league in wins (23), innings (267), and complete games (15). He finished the season with a record 59 consecutive scoreless innings pitched, breaking the mark held by former Dodger Don Drysdale. (He would then add 8 more scoreless innings in his next start-Game 1 of the NLCS, but the post season innings do not count toward the record.) He also won his first Gold Glove and was unanimously selected as the Cy Young Award winner, with a record of 23–8 and a 2.26 ERA. This uniform comes to us directly from Orel Hershiser and was worn during that historic record setting 59 consecutive scoreless innings streak of 1988. Inside the rear collar is the “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions and jersey size “44”. Attached is a flag tag with “SET 2 1988”. Across the front is “Dodgers” in blue on white tackle twill. Player number “55” appears on front in red tackle twill and on back in blue on white twill. Player name “HERSHISER” appears across the back in blue on white tackle twill. On the right sleeve is “Rawlings” embroidered in white. Inside the waistband of the matching road grey pants is the “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions and size “34”. Adjacent is a strip tag with “HERSHISER 34-36 29 88 1” indicating player name, pants size, inseam, year and set, respectively. Attached is a flag tag with “SET 1 1988”. Accompanied by a blue leather uniform belt and pair of stirrup socks. The uniform is properly tagged, was presented to us as worn during the streak and in our opinion, shows appropriate use. Accompanied by a LOA from Orel Hershiser.
