This is THE actual baseball that Orel walked off the mound with on September 28, 1988 when he broke Don Drysdale’s record 58 consecutive scoreless innings streak and set his own record, 59 consecutive scoreless innings. This record still stands today almost a quarter of a century later. 1988 was indeed a magical season for Orel, winning the NL Cy Young Award, Babe Ruth Award, Gold Glove Award, the NLCS and World Series MVP leading the Dodgers to a World Championship, setting this incredible streak in the process.
