This trophy originated from Sam Jones. Sam Jones spent all of his twelve seasons in the NBA with the Boston Celtics who drafted him in the first round in 1957. He was known as a clutch scorer, and scored over 15,000 points in his career. He participated in five All-Star Games, and is usually recognized as one of the best point guards of his generation. Jones was named to the All-NBA Second Team three straight years and he played on ten championship teams, a total exceeded only by teammate Bill Russell in NBA history. He was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1984 and named a Top 50 All-Time player in 1996. The trophy weighs 6.8 lbs., stands approximately 16-1/2” tall with a wooden base that measures 9-1/2” x 9-1/2” x 5”. The trophy features a regulation size brass basketball sitting atop the wooden base and an engraved plaque on the front that reads “BOSTON CELTICS - NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION WORLD CHAMPIONS 1964-65 - SAM JONES” along with a green enameled Celtics shamrock logo. The wooden base also features two pewter basketball players with a ball in their hand. The trophy is in NRMT condition and is accompanied by a LOA from Sam Jones.
