Pairing of original press photos dating to CCNY’s historic victory over the nation’s Number 1 ranked Bradley in the 1950 NIT. Led by tournament MVP Ed Warner, Irwin Dambrot, & Al Roth, CCNY thrilled the hometown Madison Square Gardens crowd with a 69-61 victory. Just 10 days later, CCNY would defeat Bradley in Madison Square Gardens for the NCAA Championship, marking the only time a college basketball team has won the NIT & NCAA Championships. On par with baseball’s black Sox scandal of 1919, seven members of CCNY ‘s championship squad (including Ed Warner (NIT MVP!), Irwin Lambrot (NCAA MVP) & Al Roth) were convicted on point shaving during the 1950 season, thus barring eligibility in the NCAA or NBA.
