After the horrific tragedy of September 11, 2001, the city of New York along with the entire country was in mourning. The NY Yankees took it upon themselves to assist in the healing process of the greatest city on earth. The baseball games that followed were special and historic, with all teams playing in NY wore caps of the NYPD and FDNY. In the first game back in Fenway Park, the usually anti-New York crowd sang every word to Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” while holding up signs “we are all New Yorkers today”. During the Yankees-Red Sox series after 9/11, the Yankees team signed two bats for charity auction and the Sox only one bat. The two bats offered here are one of the two Yankee team signed bats and the one and only Red Sox team signed bat, extremely rare to say the least. Each bat featuring the silver MLB hologram sticker. The Yankees team signed bat is signed by over 25 members of the 2001 AL Champs including Jeter, Mo, Tino, Rocket, Torre, Bernie, Posada, Stottlemyre, Mattingly, O’Neill, Mussina, Zimmer, Mazz, Knoblauch, Spencer, Johnson, Stanton, Sojo, Bellinger, El Duque, Mendoza and Pettitte. All sigs are done in blue marker rating an overall 8-9, bat is EX-NM overall condition; the Sox bat is signed by over twenty members of the 2001 team including Varitek, Wakefield, Cone, Pulsipher, Nomo, Arrojo, McDill, Hatteberg, Nixon, Garces, Merloni and Lowe. All sigs are done in black marker rating an overall 8, bat is EX-NM. The lot is accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
