6'9", 247-pound J.R. Reid played college basketball at North Carolina. He was the 1986 Gatorade and USA TODAY player of the year and one of most highly recruited players of his time. He was ranked #1 by Bob Gibbons of All-Star Sports, and certified his reputation by getting 29 points in the Capital Classic, and 23 points in the McDonald's Game, being MVP of both games. On the left front tail is the “Wilson” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions and jersey size “46”. Attached is a white flag tag with “10” Longer” written in black ink. Adjacent is a white strip tag with player number “34” embroidered in light blue chain stitch. Across the front is “NORTH CAROLINA”. Player number “34” appears on both the front and back. Player name “REID” appears across the back. All these numbers and letters are done in light blue tackle twill. Reid has signed the back in black marker rating a 7-8. There is a crotchpiece attached that is fully intact. Reid’s coach insisted that he wear a crotchpiece because he could not keep his shirt tucked in. The jersey shows game-use and other than the added crotchpiece appears to have no further alterations of any kind. Accompanied by additional documentation from our consignor explaining how he obtained this jersey directly from J.R. Reid along with a portion of the box coming from Reid. Further accompanied by a LOA from JSA for the signature.
