The 1981 Stanley Cup Finals had Minnesota North Stars making their first Finals appearance against the defending champion New York Islanders, in their second-ever Finals appearance. The Islanders would win the best of seven series four games to one to win their second Stanley Cup. Leading the Isles to back-to-back Cup Championships was 1980 Conn Smythe Trophy (MVP of the playoffs) winner Bryan Trottier. Trottier had a stellar regular season in 1980-81, scoring 31 goals and 72 assists. His excellence continued on into the playoffs netting 11 goals and 18 assists. The Hall of Famer would only be at the half way mark with his Stanley Cup Championships as a NY Islander; winning two more in a row, four consecutive Stanley Cups and cementing his place in hockey history as a key member of the NY Islanders one and only dynasty. Number “19” has been retired by the Islanders, never to be worn again. Hockey Hall of Fame, Class of 1997. This jersey originates from the Trottier family. Inside the rear collar is the “Sandow” manufacturer’s tag with sweater size “XL”. Directly underneath is a wash instructions tag. On front of this home white mesh jersey is the team large disc patch with “NY” done in white tackle twill and “ISLANDERS” done in orange tackle twill set against a blue tackle twill background. Player number “19” appears on back and on both sleeves. Player name “TROTTIER” appears across the back on a white nameplate. All numbers and letters are done in blue on orange tackle twill. The fight strap is intact. Heat transferred on the outer rear tail is “SANDOW SK”. The jersey shows excellent game-use with sweat staining and numerous stick marks throughout and appears to have no alterations of any kind. It is accompanied by a LOA from Casey Samuelson which states, in part “this jersey is video-matched to game footage and photo matched to an image from the May 21, 1981 game between the NY Islanders and the Minnesota North Stars”. This was game 5 of the 1981 Stanley Cup Finals when the Islanders won their second consecutive Stanley Cup. Further accompanied by a photo of Trottier wearing this jersey on the ice hoisting the Stanley Cup over his head post-game as the Nassau Coliseum with visible photo matched stick marks across the Islanders crest. This is the finest Trottier known.
