Cincinnatus Powell was selected by the St. Louis Hawks in the eight round of the 1965 NBA draft, and did not make their roster. Determined to play pro ball, he soon flourished as by joining the American Basketball Association. Beginning his career with the Dallas Chaparrals in 1967-68, “Cincy” Powell quickly became stand out performer as well as one if it’s best forwards averaging 18.3 points and 9 points per game. Cincy went on to have a fabulous career averaging 16.3 points per game, and 7.6 rebounds per game, and finishing as the ABA’s 14th leading scorer. This very basketball comes from the game in which he scored his 10,000th career point on 3/7/1974 when his Virginia Squires squared off against the Kentucky Colonels. It is a “Rawlings RSS Official” ABA basketball with Robert S. Carlson’s commissioner signature imprinted. Inscribed on the white panel above the “Rawlings” panel in black marker reads “CINCY POWELL 3-7-74 7:08 3rd QTR. 10,000 PTS” with “SQ. v.s. Ky.” to its left also in black marker.
