As a six-time All-Star and a nine-time Gold Glove, Don Mattingly had 14 outstanding years with the Yankees. Before the 1991 season, Mattingly was selected by his teammates to become the tenth Yankee captain in team history, a coveted honor for any athlete, and especially for a member of the nation's most well known baseball teams. This is most likely Mattingly's first Yankee pinstripe. In the neck of the jersey is a white label reading "82 1" done in blue chain stitch. The numbers denote the year and set number, respectively. On the left front tail is the "Wilson" label with the size "42." On the left breast is the "NY" logo and on the back is the player number "62." Both the logo and the number are made of blue tackle twill. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. It comes with a Media Guide showing Mattingly wearing this number during 1982 Spring training.
