The story goes that our consignor hid under the bleachers with his friend (who has the only other existing net of this pair) and took down the nets after the US defeated the USSR 73-59. The 1964 Olympics were the first to be held in Asia and the first to be telecast internationally without the need for tapes to be flown overseas. The games were telecast to the US using Syncom 3, the first geostationary communication satellite, and from there to Europe using Relay 1. These were also the first Olympic Games to have color telecasts, albeit partially. Sumo Wrestling was tried out in color using Toshiba’s new color transmission system. The program is autographed by 10 members of the U.S. team, including Bill Bradley, Walt Hazzard and Jerry Shipp, the team's high scorer in the gold-medal game, as well as team coach Hank Iba. The 12 ticket stubs are from non-championship games. Accompanied by travel documents and notes from the consignor’s trip, as well as an ALOA from JSA.
