One of the top 5 players in NBA history, Wilt “The Stilt” Chamberlain had an absolutely astounding 1961-62 season with the Philadelphia Warriors, he led the league with a still-to-this-day NBA record 50.4 PPG. In one eight day stretch, Chamberlain notched three games where he dropped at least 63 points. During a season in which he was torching the per game scoring average, and especially after he dropped 78 points on Los Angeles in a December 1961 game, basketball fans around the country wondered what it might be like if Chamberlain were to reach the century mark in a single game. On March 2, 1962, at Hershey Sports Arena in Hershey, Pennsylvania Wilt kept pouring on the points. Heading into the final quarter just short of his two previous NBA scoring records, 73 in a regulation game and 78 in a three-overtime game, both during the 1961-62 season, things were getting tense. The Hershey Arena crowd of 4,124 surely anticipated the inevitable. Though the Knicks attempted to avoid humiliation by exhausting the 24-second clock and attempting to foul and regain possession, Chamberlain's dunk with 46 seconds left gave him 100 points sending the crowd rushing onto the court. On the front left tail is the “PEARSON” manufacturer’s tag. Adjacent to the left is an off-white felt strip tag that reads “40 13 62” in blue chain-stitching. Across the front reads “PHILA”. Adjacent below and on the back of the uniform is Wilt’s lucky number “13”. All lettering and numbering on this jersey top is done in red on blue tackle twill. On the left hip pad of the matching white satin trucks is the “PEARSON” manufacturer’s tag with a size “34” flag tag. Adjacent above is an off-white felt strip tag that reads “34 34 61” in red chain-stitching. Some slight blue discoloration appears on the front of the trunks. This exceedingly rare uniform is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows outstanding use. One of only a few truly fantastic relics from the most outstanding season the NBA has ever seen.
