In 1955 Elston Howard made history as the first African American to take the field wearing Yankee pinstripes. A catcher by trade, he was forced to play the outfield during his first five years while Yogi Berra finished up his career. After Yogi retired, it was Howard's time to shine and he proved to be one of the best catchers that the organization has ever seen. A nine time All-Star, he won two Gold Gloves and an MVP award for his efforts. This bat was manufactured by Hillerich & Bradsby for Howard's use in the 1958 World Series. The 35 inch, 33.8 ounce K55 model bat shows light but definite use. Small mounting holes have been drilled in each end and were later expertly filled.
