This all-original red usher’s jacket with navy accents is sans manufacturers tagging and was worn by ushers at Yankee Stadium in the 1950s during the regular season and the World Series. The Yankees of the 1950s made eight appearances in the Fall Classic and Yankee Stadium hosted 25 world Series games during that time. On the lower left chest of the jacket is a beautiful 5-¾” Yankees logo patch with red, white, blue, silver and brown embroidery on light blue felt. The jacket features seven brass buttons, each with an ornate “Y” in relief. The buttons on the left shoulder epaulette, the right wrist and the front pockets are no longer present. A bracket where the usher would attach his nametag is present on the left lapel. The usher’s name “J. HERLITTY” is written lightly in black pen on the inside waistband of the jacket. We were told by our consignor that this jacket was sourced directly from the Herlitty family. This jacket has been style matched to photos of ushers on the field at Yankee Stadium after Don Larsen threw his perfect game in Game 5 of the 1956 World Series. The only other known style of this usher uniform recently sold at public auction for over $8,000.
