When the Cardinals' pitching staff was depleted by the WWII draft in 1944, 28 year-old Ted Wilks was called up. The rookie compiled a sparkling 17-4 record for a league-leading .810 winning percentage. In 1949, his 59 appearances, ten relief wins and nine saves were NL highs. His excellent control made him very effective. In the neck of the jersey is the size tag, "44" and next to this is the "Rawlings" label. Adjacent is the wash tag. On the left front tail is the name "Ted Wilks" and the year "47." Both are done in red chain stitch. Across the front of the jersey is the name "Cardinals" in red on blue embroidered stitch. Going through the letter "C" is a black embroidered bat with a red embroidered Cardinal perched on each end. On the back of the jersey is the player number "28" in red on blue felt. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
