The letterhead reads, “ROBERT TYRE JONES, JR.” and is dated “April 23, 1963”. The letter is made out to “Mr. Furman Bisher” of “The Atlanta Journal” and reads, “Dear Furman: I cannot resist an opportunity presented to me to poke a little fun at you. Perhaps you will recall the column you wrote from Augusta in which you used a Mythical Interviewee in order to chide (mildly, I must admit) the Tournament Committee for charging its patrons for the privilege of watching “the left-handed champion of New Zealand” and a totally improbable contestant by the name of Homero Blancos. I wonder if you noticed that last weekend this same left-handed New Zealander won the Houston Open with a record score of 268, while Blancos scored a final round 64 to finish third, Jack Nicklaus being five strokes behind the winner and three behind Blancos? It all goes to show that the game of golf does not lend itself well to pontification. My memory may not be completely accurate, but it seems to me that your M.I. may also have said something about our little Chinaman from Formosa. With best regards, Sincerely,” and is signed by Bob Jones in blue pen. In our opinion, the signature rates a 7 overall. Accompanied by an LOA from JSA.
