5" x 8" four page booklet format letter to his parents, dated 7/22/1864 during the Civil War from Private Joseph Milton Foster of the Union Army. Fantastic content regards baseball and reads in part (spelling not corrected), "...it is as nice a morning thi smorning as I ever saw and we ar a using it to the best advantage by playing ball...I catched for our Regt. and a fellow from Co. D threw...base ball I would be on hand I tel you..." EX with some wear and soiling, great for its age.
