This letter signed by William Randolph Hearst was addressed to his friend Will H. Hays on February 27th, 1927. William Randolph Hearst was an influential newspaper publisher and politician. His company Hearst Communications at one point owned 28 newspapers and 18 magazines. His yellow journalism writing tactics were controversial but led to increased sales and popularity among the general public. Will H. Hays was a former Postmaster General and chair of the RNC who went on to become the first Chairman of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America. In the letter Hearst speaks of their friendship and how Hays should take a longer break from his work. He explains that he shouldn’t “stay just long enough for the pilot to oil his engine” and enjoy more time at Hearst’s ranch. Hearst’s signature is near the bottom right corner of the page and is in black ink. The autograph rates a 9 in our opinion. Accompanied with an ALOA from JSA.
