No one in the history of the game ever hit a baseball harder or longer than Mickey Mantle. The immortal Casey Stengel once said of the Oklahoma strong boy, "One of these days he'll hit the ball so hard, it'll burst and all he'll get for his efforts will be a single!" Mickey still holds the unofficial record for the longest home run of all time, a projected 734 ft.-5/22/63 vs. Kansas City at Yankee Stadium against Bill Fischer. Just as the ball was about to become the first one ever to leave Yankee Stadium, it struck the facade mere inches from the top with such ferocity it bounced all the way back to the infield.
This bat, an Adirondack Model 113A, is a classic Mantle gamer measuring 35 inches in length and weighing 33 ounces. It shows nice game use with a slight handle crack, which has been repaired. The bat has a labeling period of 1964-67 and has Mickey's fabled #7 on the knob in fading black marker. The bat has been beautifully signed in black marker on the barrel by the Mick (a 5" long autograph). It's a gorgeous Mantle gamer with a beautiful flame finish.
