Hall of Famer Dave Cowens was a mainstay on the Boston Celtics of the 1970s, leading the team to NBA Championships in 1974 and 1976 and helping to resurrect a franchise presumed dead after the retirement of Bill Russell. In the era of superstars like Wilt Chamberlain and Dr. J, Cowens made his mark in the league through tenacity and work ethic, helping to earn him a reputation as one of the most solid and respected centers in recent NBA history. In a career that spanned 14 years, Cowens picked up numerous accolades along the way, including a 1971 co-Rookie of the Year Award, the 1973 NBA MVP Award, and the 1973 All-Star Game MVP Award. He would play in seven All-Star Games in his career and be named as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996. Cowens wore this jersey while playing for Newport Catholic High School in the mid-1960s. On the front left tail of the jersey is the "Powell & Clement Sporting Goods" manufacturer’s tag. Attached are the size "42" and “10” flag tags. Across the front is "NEWPORT" in yellow on white tackle twill with “CATHOLIC” below in blue tackle twill. On the front and on back is the player number "23" in yellow on white tackle twill. The jersey shows tremendous game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
