Walter Scott "invented" what would become an American icon -- the diner -- circa 1858 by selling coffee and sandwiches from a basket to newspaper night workers. Switching to a covered wagon in 1872, his "lunch wagon" eventually transformed through the railcar to the diner we know today. The summit of diner design and style was achieved in the 1950s, and we offer three beautiful surviving examples. First there is a 19" single (malt) mixer with original stainless steel cup, made by Machine Craft, art-deco style light green. It is very clean with a nick on the spindle and was made to resemble the famous Hamilton Beach Model 18. Next there is a Helmco-Lacy model "1-1," serial number B1001166 hot chocolate dispenser. It is 22" tall with hinged lid, dark copper colored metal, "Delicious Hot Chocolate" with steaming hot cup and 1950s woman in display window. It has the Helmco-Lacy logo on the lid, large mixing drum inside, shows some wear. Finally, there is a 1950 wood 12" x 17" 12-bottle carrier/dispenser rack, showing some wear. The outside is painted yellow with red letters "Drink Coca-Cola In Bottles, Family Size."
