New York born and bred inventor and entrepreneur Gail Borden received a patent in 1853 for creating the first commercial process of condensing milk. Founding a dairy company and The Borden Milk Company soon thereafter, his legacy today -- "If it's Borden's it's got to be good" -- is the Borden Family of Companies, including Borden Foods Corp., Borden Chemicals Inc. and world-renowned "Elsie The Cow." Interestingly, before he hit it big in milk, Borden was a federal surveyor who laid out the city of Galveston, Texas, where he became collector of customs! This collection of 1950s Borden's items includes a 12" x 24" metal sign, stencil painted, "Borden's Ice Cream" with the famous "Elsie The Cow" logo, in NR-MT condition with one small area scratch in the center. There is a One Quart 9-1/2" tall glass milk bottle with raised letters "Property Of Borden's Farm Products Co. Inc.," with no chips or cracks. There are two small Borden's Ice Cream Dixie cups, very clean and in NR-MT condition. There is also a 10" x 8" x 8-1/2" metal milkman's box, "Borden's Marydale Creameries" in black and red raised letters, some paint loss on the letters but clearly visible, hinge top with apparent use. Finally, there is a size 7-1/2 milkman's hat, Borden's logo sewn on front, in NR-MT condition with a small interior tear. If you enjoyed Borden's products as a kid or even now, this is the collection for you!
