"The Pride of the Yankees" was nominated for eleven Academy Awards in 1943, and is still considered by many to be the finest baseball movie ever created. It depicts the life and career of the New York Yankees' first baseman and batting extraordinaire, Lou Gehrig. This classic film features several of Gehrig's actual teammates playing themselves, including Babe Ruth, Bob Meusel, and Bill Dickey. This catcher's mask was used as a prop, actually worn by members of the cast in the filming of this movie, quite possibly Bill Dickey himself. The metal face mask has a slight coating of rust, and the leather has been nicely worn in, giving it the appearance of actual game use. The mask comes with a certificate of authenticity from the Great American Prop & Wardrobe Company.
