Bill Gallo is highly recognized for his cartoon drawings of sports personalities. This pencil and ink drawing of Ted Williams shows the Red Sox legend as an oversized character, with his head above the clouds. In large letters within the clouds it says "Opening Day April 10." To the left of the monstrous Williams is Yankee manager Casey Stengel holding up his lineup card, saying, "Here's Mine, Ump!," while the umpire screams, "Play Ball!" On the bottom right, Gallo wrote, "Nobody knows for sure yet, but it would be great to see the big guy show up at the stadium in another ten days!" Underneath is Bill Gallo's signature in ink. In pencil in the upper left corner it says "Cloudy Opener," which appears to be the name he gave this specific drawing. Visible whiteout and pencil lines detail the progress of the artwork. The back of the drawing has light tape and glue residue, and slight yellowing. The piece is in excellent overall condition, and the signature comes with a letter from PSA/DNA.
