In ancient Greece, the winning athlete was given the honor of carrying the sacred flame before the goddess Hestia's altar at Olympia. In the Amsterdam Olympic Games, this tradition was made permanent when the torch was lit to begin the 1928 Games. The torch is a tradition that will truly burn forever. Offered here is a limited edition U.S. Track and Field torch numbered 1981 out of 5000. The torch is made of solid brass and measures 13-1/2" on its stand. The flame is a reproduction of the famous Louis XV candelabra. Both the flame and the stand are removable, to easily convert into a hand-held candle-lit torch. This beautiful torch is housed in a handcrafted velvet-lined walnut case, laser engraved with the TAC (The Athletics Congress) logo, and U.S. Track and Field Team. The two vertical doors open to reveal two brass plaques etched with both the names of record holders and information about the torch. Both the torch and the walnut case are in near mint condition. The lot comes with an additional COA.
