Taken from the Dodger's Montreal farm club in 1954 for the bargain price of $4,000, was the Puerto Rican native, 20-year-old Roberto Clemente. Earning 12 career Gold Gloves, Roberto turned the Pirates, who had just had three-straight 100 loss seasons, into National League Champions. On New Year's Eve of 1972, Clemente died in a tragic plane crash one mile off the Puerto Rican coast. The National Baseball Hall of Fame waived the five-year waiting period for eligibility, and Clemente was inducted in 1973. Offered here is a photo of Clemente from 1960 in his Pirates uniform. "1960" is written in the upper left corner, and Clemente signed the photo in blue pen. The photo has one large crease going through the middle, and is in very good to excellent condition. The photo is double-matted in rust color, with a stained wooden frame. The signature rates a 7, and comes with a letter from PSA/DNA.
