Although his ability would take five seasons to develop to the Hall of Fame level, in 1960 Roberto Clemente began a string of eight consecutive seasons in which he batted no less than .310 and made the first of his 14 All-Star game appearances. His play in the field has become the stuff of legend earning him 12 Gold-Glove awards. During the 1965-66 seasons, to which this bat dates, Clemente put up some of his best numbers batting .329 (a league leading mark) and .317, respectively, and was presented with the 1966 National League MVP award. This war club shows evidence of outstanding game-use with ball and hit marks scattered about the barrel. A light coat of pine tar has been applied to the handle to aid in grip. The player number "21" appears on the knob in black marker in familiar Clemente style. In all, a picture perfect signature model gamer from the man who left his mark on the game with a style rarely seen in modern day competition. Manufacturer: Hillerich & Bradsby, Model Number: U1, Labeling Period: 1965-66, Length: 36", Weight: 36 ounces, Wood: Ash, Finish: Standard. The bat comes with a letter from PSA/DNA.
