Walt Szczerbiak had a stellar career at George Washington University, scoring 1,114 points before he advanced to the pros to play for the ABA's Pittsburgh Condors. After the Condors folded in 1972, Szczerbiak would go on to star for Real Madrid, leading his team to three Spanish championships and setting a European single-game scoring record with 65 points in a 1976 game. His legacy continues today as his son Wally provides the Minnesota Timberwolves with some of the best scoring ability in the NBA. Offered here is Szczerbiak's 1971-72 Pittsburgh Condors home knit jersey, one of the most breathtaking basketball jerseys that we have had the pleasure of auctioning. Such a jersey is incredibly rare because the ABA gave most of the Pittsburgh Condors' equipment to the prison basketball league at upstate New York's Attica Prison after folding the team in 1972. Since Szczerbiak only spent one year with the Condors, it is hard to imagine there being another such jersey. Inside the left back tail of the jersey is the "Rawlings" manufacturer's tag with the size "44". To its right is the "L" tag representing "long" and to the right of that is the wash tag. Sewn onto the front of the jersey is the beautiful red, white, blue, and gold Condors embroidered logo patch, which is one of the nicest and most colorful patches we have ever seen. This patch was only present on their home jerseys, and only for the 1971-72 season before they were folded. A white tackle twill nameplate with the player name "Szczerbiak" sewn on in gold tackle twill appears on the back of the jersey. The player number "21" has been sewn onto the front and back of the jersey in gold on red tackle twill. The jersey shows game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. Simply magnificent and rare as can be!
