The Concorde jet that travels from New York to Europe was about the only thing quicker than Carl Lewis during his hey day. The Olympic great won 22 gold medals during his storied career, including nine during Olympic competition. He also won three silver and three bronze medals overall and captured 18 national titles. In light of this, it is not far-fetched to say that Lewis was the most dominant athlete of the latter part of the 20th Century. This 15-1/2" tall bronze statue depicts Lewis in his USA uniform wearing number 913 on the reverse. He is wearing four gold medals around his neck. The approximately 10-12 lb. statue is near-mint and does not appear to have been altered or restored. The statue is the work of a Mexican artist who worked with Lewis for a full year. This was his final work relating to the Olympic great. It was personally owned by Lewis and displayed in his home before he allowed it to be auctioned off for charity. The winning bidder in that auction was none other than legendary LSU basketball coach Dale Brown. It comes with a letter from Brown detailing the history and chain of ownership.
