This letter is Ty Cobb's skeptical response to a collector looking for multiple autographs from him. Cobb writes directly below the text of Gil Jonas's letter to him, in which Jonas asks Cobb to sign various news clippings and file cards and to join the "National Sports Fans Club." Cobb's blue ink writing reads in full, "Dear Gil: I have signed a lot for you before this, don't make a business of trading etc, am pleased and honored to sign for you, what you (underlined) might want or need, but not so many, wish you luck. Ty Cobb". The 8" x 10-1/2" loose leaf paper is in excellent condition with light horizontal mailing folds (miniscule rip at the end of one) and a light crease. The fascinating content of this Cobb letter shows that while Cobb accommodated autograph requests through the mail, he had some sense of the tactics that autograph collectors would employ to build their collections. The letter comes with a PSA/DNA letter of authenticity as well as an additional letter of authenticity.
