Dick Williams guided the Oakland A's to World Series championships in 1972 and 1973. Williams, however, became incensed with owner Charlie Finley's involvement with one of his players, Mike Andrews, during the '73 Series. Used as a defensive replacement in Game Two, Andrews committed two errors that helped the Mets win. Finley wanted Andrews to claim he was injured so he could drop him from the playoff roster, which angered Williams so much that he quit his post at the end of the Series. These three uncashed 1974 Oakland A's checks made out to Williams support his disdain for Finley and the owner's futile attempt to keep him as manager of his team. One check is made out for $213.65 for air transportation to report to spring training. The other two are payroll checks complete with pay stubs, and each is made out in the amount of $1,522.65. The checks are dated 1/15, 1/13 and 2/4 in 1974, grade NM overall and were all acquired directly from Williams.
