Following his retirement from Major League Baseball, Hank Greenberg was hired by Bill Veeck to manage the Cleveland Indians. This two-page letter was handwritten by Greenberg on Indians letterhead and is in response to fellow Hall of Famer Max Carey, who was looking for a coaching position with the club. Greenberg replies, in part, "thank you for your offer of assistance...I feel sure you could do a splendid job for us, but...we already have five coaches and a new manager...it would be unwise to arrange for additional coaching. I suggest since you are in Florida that you write to Muddy Ruel...he would be in a position to utilize your services in instructing our young players in the art of base running." The letter has been signed at the close "Sincerely, Hank Greenberg." The content of the letter and signature are all done in clear black ink rating a near 10. The autograph comes with a letter from PSA/DNA.
