In 1944, the "Gateway City" was electrified with the excitement of what was billed as the "St. Louis Showdown." It featured the eight-time National League champion Cardinals who were tenants of the American League's downtrodden Browns in Sportsman's Park, which would be the venue for the entire contest. It was the first time that all the games of the Series would be played in the same park since 1922, when the Yankee and Giants played at the Polo Grounds. The Cardinals were led by great pitching and a young Stan Musial in winning the Series four games to two. Offered is an original 1944 World Series championship ring that was awarded to Clyde "Buzzy" Wares, a coach.This beautiful 14K gold ring has a diamond in the middle raised on top a baseball with bats. The lettering encircling the diamond reads "World Series Champions, 1944." Both shanks have the "Cardinals logo and 1944." Engraved on the inside band is "Presented To Clyde Wares By Baseball Commissioner" and "14K, HJCD." The ring is a size 8-3/4 and grades EX. A great and rare ring!
