Mark McGwire could hit home runs like no one else in baseball, driving the ball so far that one of the greatest ironies of his incredible 70 home run season in 1998 was that his record-breaking 62nd home run came on a line drive that barely cleared the left field wall. "McGwire's swing is designed to produce home runs," wrote Allen Barra in the New York Times. "Anything else -- doubles, singles, the occasional ground ball, is an accident." This McGwire St. Louis Cardinals home knit jersey with undershirt is from the 2000 season. Inside the left front tail of the jersey is the "Rawlings Authentic Collection" manufacturer's tag and to its right is a flag tag reading "Set 1 2000." Below the manufacturer's tag are tags reading "2 Inch Extra Length Sleeve," "2 Inch Extra Length," and the size "52." The team name "Cardinals" with the bird logo is embroidered across the front of the jersey in red, black, and yellow. On the back is a white knit nameplate with the player name "McGwire." The player number "25" appears on the left breast and the back of the jersey. All the letters and numbers are made of red on black tackle twill. The red "R" for Rawlings is embroidered onto the left sleeve. The MLB embroidered patch is sewn onto the back of the neck. The jersey was custom-made for McGwire with a customized tail. Included with the jersey is a red and grey undershirt that was also custom-made for him. The player number "25" is embroidered onto the neck and "No Fear" is embroidered onto the wrist of the right sleeve, both in white. In the neck is the manufacturer's tag "Amapro" and the wash tag with the size "XXL." The jersey and undershirt show nice game use and appear to have no alterations of any kind.
