Mike followed the advice of his godfather, Tommy Lasorda, making the transition to catcher to improve his draft status. From that humble beginning, he has become one of the most productive offensive catchers in the history of the game. Piazza was a Marlin for one week in 1998 before being traded to the Mets. On the left front tail of the jersey is the "Russell Athletic" label with the size "50." Below this is the "2" Extra Length" label and under this is a label reading "Piazza 31-50-98." The numbers denote the player number, size, and year, respectively. Across the front of the vest is the team name "Marlins" in teal on black and white tackle twill and on the back is a white nameplate with the player name "Piazza" in black on teal tackle twill. The player number "31" appears on both the left breast and on the back of the vest. The numbers are made of black on white and teal tackle twill. The jersey shows game use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
