Bobby Valentine's reckless abandon led to serious injuries that dimmed his playing career. A versatile performer, he was the fifth player chosen in the June 1968 Pacific Coast League and was Player of the Year in 1970, leading the league in batting (.340), total bases and many other categories. This jersey was manufactured in 2000 and worn during the 2001 season. On the inside left front tail is the "Rawlings" label and adjacent is the flag tag reading "Set 1 2000." Below is the size tag "44" and next to this is the "1 Inch Extra Length" label. Across the front of the jersey is the name "Mets" in script-style letters and on the back is the name "Valentine." The player number "2" appears on both the left breast and on the back of the shirt. The letters and numbers are made of ribbed blue tackle twill on an orange/black tackle twill backing. On the left sleeve is the Mets skyline patch. On the right sleeve is "9-11-01" in black embroidered stitch. There is an American flag patch on either side of this date and one on the back of the jersey, commemorating the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. There is an autograph on the back number which rates a 9. The jersey shows wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind. The autograph comes with a letter from PSA/DNA.
