Joe DiMaggio spent his playing career in Yankee pinstripes, but in 1968 and 1969 he returned home to don the more colorful green and gold of the Oakland Athletics as one of their coaches. In that capacity, he worked daily with a young Reggie Jackson and had the privilege of witnessing Catfish Hunter's 1968 perfect game, which DiMaggio simply called "a masterpiece." Additionally, A's pitchers can thank DiMaggio for moving the infield away from the backstop to eliminate the obstructed view from the upper deck, which simultaneously created the largest foul territory in the Major Leagues. This all-original DiMaggio Athletics road flannel vest is from 1968, the only year in which the A's wore this rare style. On the left front tail is the "McAuliffe" manufacturer's tag and below it are the year tag "'68" and the size tag "48." The team name "Oakland" is sewn across the front in green on yellow embroidered letters with a green embroidered outline. On the back is DiMaggio's number "5" in green on yellow tackle twill with a green embroidered outline. DiMaggio has signed the jersey on the right front tail with a blue Sharpie signature reading "Sincerely, Joe DiMaggio." The autograph rates an 8 and comes with a PSA/DNA letter of authenticity. The jersey shows wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind. Worn and autographed by DiMaggio, and available for the fraction of the price of his Yankees jerseys!
