The 1951 All-Star Game took place in Detroit's Briggs Stadium before more than 52,000 fans. The National League dominated, winning the game 8 to 3 and establishing a then-record by slamming four home runs. Offered here is what is surely the most significant baseball signed on that day. One panel has been hand-lettered with all pertinent game information, starting with "Enos Slaughter's Souvenir-Ball, His 8th All-Star Game, Briggs Stadium Detroit, July 10th 1951." Other information includes a box score, attendance, receipts, time, etc. The remaining four panels of the ball have been signed by 21 members of the National League team including Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, Pee Wee Reese, Warren Spahn, Ralph Kiner, Duke Snider, Richie Ashburn, Robin Roberts, Willie Jones, Del Ennis, Larry Jansen, Ewell Blackwell, Dutch Leonard, Bruce Edwards (clubhouse), Don Newcombe, Sal Maglie, John Wyrostek, Preacher Roe, Bob Elliot, and Al Dark. The signatures have been well preserved and rate 8 to 9. The ball itself is a cream-colored OAL Harridge beauty. We were told by our consignor that the ball was prepared for Slaughter by St. Louis Cardinals trainer Dr. Harrison Weaver. The autographs come with a letter from PSA/DNA.
