While their 1977 World Series win was an important return to the top for the Yankees after an embarrassing sweep at the end of the Big Red Machine, their 1978 title was more of an assertion that they still had the ability to win back-to-back championships. This Adirondack Big Stick bat was presented to Elston Howard for his role as a coach on that championship team and his name is engraved in the barrel. To the left of Howard's engraved name is a plaque which states "New York Yankees 1978 World Champions Second Consecutive Year Defeated L.A. Dodgers 4 Games to 2 Games." The bat has very few apparent flaws and is in near mint condition. It comes with a letter of authenticity from Howard's wife Arlene.
