To honor Roy Campanella after his tragic car accident, the Los Angeles Dodgers scheduled a Yankee-Dodger exhibition game on May 7, 1959 and presented each participant with the bowl and base offered here. The silver-plate bowl is 5" tall and measures 10" in diameter. It is engraved "Yankee-Dodger Game In Honor of Roy Campanella May 7th 1959 Los Angeles Coliseum." The bowl rests on a wood base that includes a silver engraved nameplate reading "Los Angeles Examiner Award Presented to Elston Howard with Sincere Appreciation for Participating in the Yankee-Dodger Game." Also mounted on the base is a silver baseball with Campanella's signature engraved in it. The bowl is in VG-EX condition due to tarnishing of the inside--undetected when viewing the award as a whole--but the ball is in excellent condition and the base and nameplate are in excellent to near mint condition. The award comes with a letter of authenticity from Howard's wife Arlene.
