Earning an award named after Babe Ruth is generally a mark of greatness, and this award is certainly no exception to that. The award offered here is Elston Howard's Babe Ruth Award for being the 1958 World Series MVP. The base of the award is a black wood oval measuring approximately 11 inches across and 13 1/2 inches vertically. On the black base is an engraved diamond-shaped plate stating "The Babe Ruth Award to the Most Outstanding Player of the 1958 World Series / Elston Howard New York Yankees / Presented by the New York Chapter Baseball Writers' Association of America." The plate also has an engraved baseball and bats. The award is in excellent condition and comes to us directly from Howard's wife Arlene. It is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from her and also comes with a program from the New York Baseball Writers' 1972 dinner which lists Howard as the 1958 winner.
