Hailed by Sparky Anderson as the next Sandy Koufax, Don Gullett was a vital part of the Big Red Machine in the early 1970's. The 19 year old rookie flamethrower struck out six Mets in a row on August 23, 1970. tying a relief record, and Willie Stargell said Gullett "throws nothing but wall-to-wall heat." He signed with the Yankees as a free agent for 1977 and went 14-4 to help New York go to a World Championship. In the neck of the jersey is a white label reading "Gullett 78 2" done in blue chain stitch. The numbers denote the year and set number, respectively. On the left front tail is the "Wilson" label with the size "44." On the left breast is the "NY" logo and on the back is the player number "35." Both the logo and the number are made of blue tackle twill. The black armband was removed from the left sleeve after the 1978 season. The jersey shows game-use and with the exception for the removed armband, appears to have no other alterations.
