Gene Woodling, a four-time minor league batting champion, stayed with the Yankees in 1949 and played a large role in the club's record five consecutive World Championships (1949-53.) In Casey Stengel's opinion, Woodling was the best defensive left fielder in New York. Inside the neck of the jersey is a white felt label reading "Woodling G" done in blue chain stitch. On the left front tail is the "Wilson" label and adjacent is the size tag, "46." Below the Wilson label is the wash tag and under this is the year "1954" done in blue chain stitch. Across the front of the jersey is the name "New York" and on the back is the player number "14." The letters and numbers are made of blue felt. There is an autograph on the lower left front which rates an 8. The letters and numbers have been restored. The jersey shows game-use and with the exception of the above-mentioned changes, appears to have no other alterations of any kind. The autograph comes with a letter from PSA/DNA.
